A Simple Way to Create Web Pages

The Home Page

The home page is the main page of your site. It is usually the first page a visitor sees when visiting your site. Most often, the home page file is named index.htm or index.html.

Write a brief summary of your site for your home page. Don't assume that your readers will understand the purpose of your site just by reading the title or page heading.

Use an Index

Provide an index or table of contents called a navigational bar or nav bar on your home page and on the other pages of your site. This allows readers to select the information they find most useful to them. It also allows them to easily maneuver through your site.

Provide a Help Section

If your web site is very large, provide a help section on the home page. Explain to readers how you have your information organized and the purpose of the icons and navigational tools.

Display Credits

If you create pages for other people, ask them if you can put your name and contact information at the bottom of the home page. This will allow people a way to get in touch with you if they have questions about the web site design and layout.
